|Herkimer Diamond - The evolution of brilliance - The world famous Herkimer Diamond
began forming approximately half a billion years ago
in shallow Cambrian seas in the Adarondack Mountains
of upstate New York.
The Herkimer's are beautiful double-terminated crystals,
in the quartz family, that are already faceted by nature
when they are mined.
They are characterized by shiny surfaces, high clarity,
short stubby bodies and double-terminations.
Each Diamond is unique and thus each sterling silver
setting that the Diamond sits in is a unique,
hand made one-of-a-kind work of art that is crafted to
follow the lines and facets of each stone.
All of the Diamonds are uncut and in this natural state
have obvious inclusions (flaws) which would normally be
cut out of a diamond when it is cut (faceted). Once the
Diamond is set it is suspended from a delicate hand
crafted silk 16" silk chord which has its' own woven-in closure. No two pieces are the same with variations in appearance and weight but none of our Herkimer Diamonds measures less than 3/4 of an inch - please let us choose for you.
